Encourage your children to embrace their inner artist and draw spring tulips with crayons before painting with watercolors. This tulip project includes some lines that are ideal for practicing pre-writing skills too - zig zag, downstroke, slanted downstrokes, clockwise loop and ovals.
- remind them how to hold a crayon correctly
- demonstrate how to draw a simple tulip shape with a straightforward count of 5 strokes (see video below)
- have some real tulips or flowers near your drawing space if you can for children to observe and sense
- use different shades of pink, yellow, purple, and blue, with green for the stems and leaves
Once you’ve shown your students how to draw a simple tulip shape they can experiment and express their unique interpretations, adding their own creative touches - such as adding a bumblebee hovering over the flowers or a butterfly flitting through the air.
