Ice Cream Stack Number Game

Math Game for Comparing Numbers

Just listed in our store is a new printable math game - Ice Cream Stack!

Make learning to count numbers in the range 1 to 20 fun and engaging. Students will count out the scoops to match their ice cream cone. The blackline version makes a cute craft activity too!

How does it help?

Our little learners need loads of practice, confidence and genuine understanding when working with numbers. They need an abundance of opportunities to handle groups of objects.

The manipulation of objects will allow them to develop an ability to recognize quantities by sight. This game is great as students can line up the ice creams next to one another and compare the quantities in a unique way.

This activity will help students learn to - recognize numerals 1-20 although you can take the 'teen' numbers out if you prefer, and just work with numbers 1-10.

Hop over to our TpT store to find this fun new printable! Thanks so much for stopping by.

Friends of Ten Freebie

Free Poster for Making 10

A few years ago I made a free 'friends of ten' poster to accompany one of our popular addition math centers.

Friends of Ten

These are the number pairs that combine to total ten - 9+1, 8+2, 7+3, 6+4, 5+5. Being confidently familiar with these pairs will help your learners with fluency and calculations in math.

I updated it recently to include a blackline version and would love to share it with you again.

Addition Making 10 Activities

Have your students color the blackline version for reinforcement of the concept.

Classroom Welcome Postcard

Do you like to send a welcome postcard to your students before school starts? Maybe have one ready for their first day in the classroom?

I found this welcome postcard printable in my archives - I made it in 2013! It is bright and colorful and you can simply print, write and post them out to your students.

Welcome postcards are a nice way to introduce yourself as the teacher and begin to establish the classroom community.

I've included one for a single teacher classroom and also for a multiple teacher situation.

I would love to share them with you - find the file in Google Drive HERE

Ice Cream Directed Drawing

Today I wanted to show you some art projects that were developed from the steps outlined in our printable packet over at TpT

Ice Cream Art Project for Kids - 1

For this little guy, I:
  • drew the steps exactly
  • painted with watercolor
  • outlined with black marker
  • added soft cotton wool ball clouds
  • added green grass detail - crayon and a downward line stroke

Ice Cream Art Project for Kids - 2

For this cutie, I:

  • drew the steps but changed the face
  • painted with watercolor
  • outlined with black marker
  • drew sand and clouds in the sky

Ice Cream Stack Art Project for Kids - 3

For this I:

  • drew the steps but added more scoops
  • painted with watercolor
  • outlined with black marker
  • drew sand and clouds in the sky
Encourage your little learners to draw several ice cream funnies on scrap paper or a whiteboard, experimenting with different features, faces and backgrounds. When they have drawn a few they may like to choose their favorite to develop into their artwork.
You can find this directed drawing from our TpT store - Funny Ice Cream Directed Drawing.
