Most Loved Pet Graphing Activity

Are you looking for a way to incorporate a touch of love into the classroom for Valentine's Day? Or needing to introduce students to simple graphs? Let's combine both with an engaging mathtivity!

Students will have opportunities for creativity with the cute pet toppers to help display their awesome graphs! You could even ask students to design their own pet topper using paper scraps and scissors.

We've provided easy-cut  templates pieces for a cat, dog, bird or fish.

Giant class graph

Conduct a collaborative class survey of the most-loved pet and model all graphing skills with our class-sized graph. Just print and glue the 4 pages together to make this super sized chart.

student graphing

Students can complete their own independent graph using the worksheet provided - copying the class made graph or going back to the survey results to complete independently (hide the chart temporarily while students complete this).

Analyzing graph data

Students can also complete a data-analysis worksheet after they graph to show what information they can retrieve from the chart.

Included in this easy-prep printable pack is:
  • 4 color and cut craft toppers (cat, dog, bird, fish)
  • graphing page
  • graph analysis worksheet
  • survey token cards to complete a class survey
  • pages to make a giant class graph (cut and glue 4 sheets together to make a graph large enough for class to complete together)
  • giant classroom letters that spell 'WE LOVE PETS' to display with crafts
We can't wait to see some of your classroom displays and hope you little ones loves this lesson. Please tag up on social media so we can see your precious pics.

Koala Friends Wallpaper

I've made a new wallpaper and paper design - Koala Friends. I hope when you add it to your home and classroom electronic boards, iPads, computers and phones it brings you joy and happiness!

The wallpaper design is for your personal use only and cannot be redistributed or shared.

Find it on our website HERE.

Coordinating Printables

I've also added this design, in print quality to the 'Banner and Paper' pack. This pack allows you to coordinate your home office or classroom elements with your screen!

This paper pack includes papers that can be used for the background of classroom posters, powerpoints, folders, books and labels. Decorative pennants for a classroom banner are also included.

Thank you so much for visiting us here on the blog. Have a beautiful, happy week.

Fast-Prep Valentine's Day Card

Have your little ones practice the valuable fine motor skill of paper tearing to make this adorable and fast-prep card for Valentine's Day!

They will arrange little 'pieces' of torn paper into a collage-style pattern on a Valentine for their favorite family member.

3 styles are included:
  • page sized
  • page sized with 'to' and 'from' written
  • half page fold-a-card style

They look amazing, are easy-to-prep and will be treasured by families for years to come.

We hope you have a wonderful time with your students creating special memories with this creative and fun project! It is over in our TpT store.

Free Handwriting Activities - Sky Grass Dirt

When students are learning to write letters we need to help them become aware of, and then form their letters with correct proportion, size and shape.

Our sky, grass, dirt (or flower/stem/root) visual is perfect for this!  We have a fun and FREE resource to get you started with this important concept today.

Your students will love using these easy-to-prep write'n'wipe activity cards and papers.

Simply print and laminate the cards and provide them to your students with a dry erase marker or a reusable plastic pocket.

Students will use the red dot visual to help position their pen in the correct starting place.

Print you cards '2 to a page' for smaller letters.

Students can apply their learning to a range of other activities with our included writing paper.

The colored version is perfect for popping in a plastic pouch.

Number Patterns

Pattern is fundamental in mathematics. After students know the basics of simple patterns - creating, continuing and making their own with shapes, colors and pictures, they will love learning to explore number patterns.

A great way to begin is for students to make simple patterns with objects and then ask them to use numbers to describe their pattern.  Let students make patterns with blocks and counters and label the sets with number cards.

Our Pattern Penguin math craft provides a way to record number patterns in a fun and creative way. Start your lesson with a review of repeating patterns - where items are added in equal steps.
  • show your students a pattern like the one below, where three fish are added each time
  • tell students to explore some patterns like this one and give them some equipment
  • encourage them to describe their pattern and label the growing total
  • check their knowledge by asking them 'how many are you adding each time'
  • regroup your class and ask them to share the patterns they created - they may have recorded some on paper or be able to describe them verbally
  • record their patterns by writing them down as number patterns on a collaborative chart
  • challenge students to tell you what the next number would be - how do they know?

To make a pattern penguin

  • Ask students to select one of the patterns shared by the group and record it on a 'pattern penguin'.
  • Cut all pieces (complete one page version also included with minimal cutting)

  • Ask students to color the penguin pieces
  • Glue the pieces together and record a number pattern!
  • Let students describe their pattern rule in their own natural mathematical language.

If you are introducing number patterns to very young learners, start with a story like I Went Walking by Sue Machin. Brown Bear Brown Bear is another good one.

While reading, encourage students to keep track of the 'animal pattern' by counting how many animals on each page. Record the numbers in a box on a chart or whiteboard. As the story progresses, show the change to the pattern and how much was added to make it grow. Perhaps after the story you could use animal tokens to make more patterns.

Having free-play equipment readily available is a great way for students to engage in regular pattern making. Take photos of the patterns made by students, print them out, talk about them as a class and then provide them for other students to copy for inspiration in their pattern making!

Polar Bear Information Writing

Today we would like to share in more detail, our new Polar Bear craftivity. Your students can complete a writing task on polar bears and display it with a cute polar bear craft.

We've included

  • 4 writing page options,
  • 12 walk-the-room style fact cards to help students with their research and
  • some giant classroom letters spelling out 'POLAR BEARS' to title your classroom display

  • Cut out the pieces and select the writing page (we've included 4 layout choices).

  • Glue the inner pink circle ear to the ears and the writing page to the base.

  • Glue the ears behind the head.

  • Glue the eyes, nose and cheeks.

  • Glue the paws on the sides and base.

We've included 12 fact cards to help students research for their writing. Each fact is simple and clearly set out for young readers.

Scatter them around the classroom and students can walk-and-read to learn about polar bears. Ask them to jot down a few facts that they will include in their writing.

You can team up this craft with the book Rainbow Bear by Stephen Michael King. Students can add colorful doodles to their craft after reading the book!

cvc Literacy Center Game

cvc word games for first grade

You love having fun and engaging new activities for reading groups and literacy center time - right? Games, activities and centers that help your little ones gain the much-needed repetition for deep and meaningful learning? Well my lovely, you're in the right place, because that is precisely what we love to make!

This printable activity sees your little learners
  • reading cvc words (or sounding-out)
  • matching words with pictures
  • writing cvc words (optional)
Included in the file for you is:
  • 12 easy-prep game mats (each feature 8 cvc words)
  • word cards (provided in 12 matching word lists)
  • follow-up cut-and-paste worksheet
  • cover page for your organizational packets and folders
The core activity is for students to take a card, read it then match it to a picture on their card.

However, the activity also has at least 2 easy alternatives:

write cvc words

  • provide a list  of the words for students (don't cut them up into individual word cards)
  • read the words on the list, and write them with a dry-erase marker on the game mat

Challenge card

  • do not provide a word list or word cards
  • students sound-out or say name of each picture and write it - encouraging independent spelling

Keep the words for each game mat in little individual baggies so it is easy to set-up.
