cvc Literacy Center Game

You love having fun and engaging new activities for reading groups and literacy center time - right? Games, activities and centers that help your little ones gain the much-needed repetition for deep and meaningful learning? Well my lovely, you're in the right place, because that is precisely what we love to make!

This printable activity sees your little learners 

• reading cvc words (or sounding-out)
• matching words with pictures
• writing cvc words (optional)

Included in the file for you is:

• 12 easy-prep game mats (each feature 8 cvc words)
• word cards (provided in 12 matching word lists)
• follow-up cut-and-paste worksheet
• cover page for your organizational packets and folders

The core activity is for students to take a card, read it then match it to a picture on their card.

However, the activity also has at least 2 easy alternatives:

write cvc words

• provide a list  of the words for students (don't cut them up into individual word cards)
• read the words on the list, and write them with a dry-erase marker on the game mat

Challenge card 

• do not provide a word list or word cards
• students sound-out or say name of each picture and write it - encouraging independent spelling

Keep the words for each game mat in little individual baggies so it is easy to set-up.

Once students have positioned all the cards they can ask a friend to check their work. Encourage them to complete all 12 cards!
