You can use your students cute hen drawings to make a spring themed attendance chart. Draw a chicken coop on a large piece of art paper and ask your children to stick their chicken on the chart as they come in for the day.
- When students have to find their names on the attendance chart, they are practicing reading and recognizing their names.
- They are also learning the names of their classmates.
- When students check in for the day, they are interacting with their teacher and classmates. This helps them develop social skills such as taking turns, following directions, and communicating with others.
- When students have a special place to check in for the day, they feel like they are part of the classroom community. This helps them feel safe and secure.
Display the attendance charts in a prominent place in the classroom and encourage students to look at them and talk about their classmates.
I have a growing collection of bulletin board and classroom door display sets that work perfectly as attendance charts too! Just print, write a fun message or your classroom name and the names of your students.
- print 3 sets of name tags and give students the opportunity to see their name in 3 places throughout the day:
- one for their desk or cubby
- one for the attendance or welcome display
- one in a set of name-selector sticks in your main teaching area (print and attach to craft sticks)
Interactive hands-on attendance charts are a valuable tool for kindergarten classrooms. They provide a fun and engaging way for students to check in for the day, learn names, and develop social skills.
