To make name sticks, simply write each student's name on a craft stick and pop them into a little container (a mini plant pot works well). You can use different colored craft sticks for different groups of students. If you're using my bees, each student can be one of 6 colors - giving you the opportunity to form groups too.
When you need to randomly select a student, simply draw a stick from the pot.
Here are a few tips for using name sticks in the classroom:
- Use name sticks to choose students for classroom jobs and tasks. This is a fair and impartial way to ensure that all students have an opportunity to participate.
- Use name sticks to group students randomly. This is a great way to create diverse and balanced groups for group work or projects.
- Use name sticks to select students for games and activities. This can add an element of excitement and surprise to your lessons.
My pack also includes supporting visuals - a sticker/stamp reward circle (collect 5 or 10 through the week for being helpful), a cute classroom poster and some worksheets to write about being helpful at school.
As well as the bee name sticks, I have
for you to choose from. They're easy to prep and use and make learning fun in your classroom!
