Crafting Fun with Oranges: A Delightful Paper Craft and Learning Game for Kids
Welcome to another exciting activity from Pond Coloring Club! Today, we’re diving into a fun and engaging paper craft that’s perfect for young learners just getting started with cutting and paper projects. Not only will your students create a charming orange-themed craft, but they’ll also get a chance to enhance their listening skills with a playful game. Let’s get started!
Crafting an Orange Delight
Our simple orange craft is an excellent way to introduce your preschool and kindergarten students to the basics of cutting and paper crafting. Here's how you can do it:Materials Needed:
Steps:
Print and Cut:
Start by printing the orange page from our Pond Coloring Club website.
Have the children cut out a clear, simple circle from the orange construction paper. This circle will be the main body of their orange.

Add Texture:
Using crayons or markers, let the kids draw small dots all over their orange circle. These dots will mimic the texture of an actual orange, giving it a fun and realistic look.
Attach the Stem and Leaf:
Next, have the children cut out a small stem and leaf from the green paper and glue the stem to the top of the orange circle and place the leaf beside it.
Create a Display:
Once all the oranges are completed, arrange them on a bulletin board or a classroom wall. Add a cheerful “Welcome to Our Classroom” to make the display extra inviting!
A Fun Listening Game: Apples and Oranges
To keep the fun going and reinforce learning, introduce a playful listening game called “Apples and Oranges.”Here’s how it works:
Game Setup:
Explain to the children that they will listen for words that start with the short “a” sound (as in apple) and the short “o” sound (as in orange).
Playing the Game:
- The teacher calls out words one by one.
- If the word has a short “a” sound, like “apple,” the children will stand up and stretch their arms high as if picking apples from a tree.
- If the word has a short “o” sound, like “orange,” the children will bend their arms into a rounded shape to represent an orange in a bowl.
- This activity not only reinforces phonics but also keeps kids active and engaged in a fun way!
- Here are some words that might help:
- Short “a” sound: apple, ant, hat, cat, bat, bag, map, nap, sand, man, rat, can, pad, pan, flag, tap, jam, mat, cap, wax
- Short “o” sound: orange, box, dog, sock, hop, pot, rock, frog, log, mop, hot, dot, top, rod, box, mom, bot, cot, not, shop
