Counting and Writing Fun with a Hen Craft
Looking for a fun and educational activity for your kindergarteners? Look no further than this hen craft! This craft is a great way to practice counting and fine motor skills, and it also gives you the opportunity to review- words in the en word family
- writing a short informational text
- addition to ten
Materials:
- hen pieces - choose from 3 options in my pack
- crayons, pencils, markers or paint
- scissors
- glue
- writing page (optional)
Instructions:
- Paint or color the pieces of the hen.
- If using the ten frame to model addition -have the students choose a number combination to color the eggs (e.g. 6 pink and 4 blue)
- Cut the pieces out
- Glue a strip of yellow paper behind the ten frame and snip down to the edge to make some straw for the hen to sit in
- Assemble and glue the pieces to make the hen sit on the ten frame
- Leave to dry and choose one of the 5 included writing pages to complete
Counting Activity:
Once the hen craft is finished, use it to practice counting with your kindergarteners. Talk about the combinations of numbers that make ten. Record an addition story - a little page is ready to print in the pack.You can also ask them to count other objects on a picture of the farm such as animals, flowers or fence posts.
