3 Ways to Use our Free Heart Roll and Color Worksheet

Free Heart Roll and Color Worksheet

Over in our free Pond Coloring Club library today, you can find a coloring page with a math twist! Your little ones can roll a dice to direct their coloring progress.

We want to share with you 3 simple tweaks you can make to this practical and fast-prep activity to differentiate it for your students.

You will need:

  • one page per student
  • markers, crayons or pencils
  • standard dice, numeral dice, 12 sided dice

Heart Roll and Color
One differentiation you can make at the lesson strategy level would be to have students playing individually or students plating in pairs, competing against one another to complete the page. This will depend on the age of your students and how well they cope with game style activities. I have found that it can add a significant layer of engagement with children I have taught in the past, but I do take time to develop an awareness of fairness, respect and gamesmanship within the class community beforehand.

Students will roll, find and color the hearts to match their roll.

Subitizing

Students roll a standard 6 sided die. Encourage instant recognition of the dit patterns and finding a heart to match before coloring.

Numeral Match

Use a numeral die and encourage students to use their knowledge to now match dots with numerals. They will roll a numeral, identify it and find the dot-pattern number picture to match before coloring.

Early Addition

Students will roll a 12 sided die in the game variation and find 2 hearts that total their roll. They will color both hearts.
