Our Roll and Add math center pack is perfect for St Patrick's Day! It is so simple and easy to prep and includes loads of differentiation opportunities.
Students will choose from one of 4 game mats
- rainbow
- pot of gold
- gold coin
- shamrock
- create an addition problem by rolling 2 dice
- model addition with small equipment (counters, tokens, buttons etc)
- determine the total of 2 groups
- record addition with a dry erase marker
Each game mat clearly shows 2 parts for the addition, encouraging learners to internalize the part-part-whole relationship.
Change up your dice so you can offer differentiation.
- 2 dot dice for students who are just starting addition (they can see the dot quantities and count them if needed)
- 1 dot, 1 number dice for encouraging students to 'count on' from one number
- 2 numeral dice - encouraging mental addition strategies
You can even use 2 digit numbers to extend clever mathematicians in your class!
We've also included a version of the game mats that does not include math symbols. These use the words 'add' and 'makes' for making the addition sentence.
A recording worksheet is included for students to record some of their learning.
