Drawing the Three Bears with Simple Circles!
Who knew a few simple circles could turn into three very lovable bears?My new Three Bears Directed Drawing & Writing Printable Pack is a fun way to explore Goldilocks and the Three Bears while combining art, shapes, size concepts, literacy and storytelling.
Using simple step-by-step directions, children can create their own big, medium and small bears using circles and other simple shapes. Once the drawings are complete, they can add their own creative details and use their bears as inspiration for talking, retelling and writing.
Make a Whole Three Bears Theme!
The directed drawing can be a lovely starting point for lots of simple classroom learning. Here are a few ideas to try alongside it:- Read some bear books! Read different versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and compare the characters, settings and endings. Add some other favourite fiction and nonfiction bear books too.
- Go on a circle hunt. How many circles can children find around the classroom or school? Look for clocks, wheels, lids, plates, signs and more.
- Explore the letter B. Brainstorm words beginning with b — bear, big, brown, bowl, bed, baby and beyond!
- Listen for the “ee” sound. Use the word three as your starting point and see how many other “ee” words you can hear and collect.
- Investigate size. Talk about big, medium and small, then find classroom objects to compare and order from smallest to largest.
- Tell a bear story. Once the artwork is finished, encourage children to give their bears names, describe them or create a new Three Bears adventure of their own.

One of my favourite things about directed drawing is seeing how differently every child's finished picture turns out, even when everyone begins with the same simple steps!Display the completed bears together, turn them into a Three Bears classroom gallery, or pair the artwork with children's writing for a colourful literacy display.
