Easy Summer Shark Drawing for Kindergarten & First Grade
Hello arty teachers! ☀️🎨Looking for an easy, engaging art activity for May and June? One of my favorite projects from the My First Summer Directed Drawing Pack is the cheerful little shark drawing! 🦈
This pack was designed especially for kindergarten and first grade students, with simple directed drawings that work beautifully as:
- art projects
- early writing prompts
- fast finisher activities
- summer learning fun
- end-of-year keepsakes
The shark drawing begins with one big curved line and simple line teeth, making it very approachable for young artists while still full of personality, movement, and expression.
It’s just one of 12 summer-themed directed drawings included in the pack, and students always love turning their shark into a colorful ocean scene!
To extend the activity, you might:
- learn a few simple shark facts together
- look at photos or short ocean videos
- explore ocean-themed SH words like:
- shark
- shell
- ship
- shimmer
- shiny
- shiver
- fish
- fishes
- splash
- woosh
You could also:
- practice drawing curved lines and zig-zag teeth on whiteboards first
- add watercolor ocean backgrounds
- use crayons to create wavy water textures
- encourage students to invent silly shark stories or adventures

And if you’d like to add a simple nonfiction writing connection, I also have an “All About Sharks” writing page waiting inside the Pond Coloring Club 🦈💙
This project is such a fun fit for summer themes while still building confidence in drawing, writing, and creative thinking.
