Hello arty teachers! ๐จ๐
I’ve added a sweet new Beach Bear project to my directed drawing collection, and it makes such a fun companion activity to the much-loved Winter Bear drawing! ๐ป❄️➡️☀️
The Beach Bear Directed Drawing & Writing Pack is perfect for kindergarten and first grade students during May, June, or summer learning themes. Students can practice simple drawing shapes while also building vocabulary, storytelling, and early writing skills.
One fun way to begin the lesson is with a class brainstorming activity:
๐งบ “What could we take to the beach for the bear?”
Students will love helping create a big class chart filled with ideas like:
- blanket
- basket
- bucket
- backpack
- book
- bottle
- ball
- bag
Before drawing, students might also:
- read books about the beach
- talk about beach safety and summer activities
- look at photos of beaches and ocean animals
- discuss things people like to do at the beach:
- collect shells
- swim
- paddle
- surf
- play games
- build sandcastles
- read and relax
- practice circles and curved lines on whiteboards first
- draw large colorful backgrounds around their bear
- add beach accessories and details from the class brainstorm
- use watercolor paint for sky and ocean areas
- add crayon texture for sand, fur, and waves
The writing pages make it easy to extend the activity into storytelling or personal connections too. Students may enjoy writing about a pretend beach day with their bear or describing their favorite summer activity ☀️
And if your class completed the Winter Bear earlier in the year, this is such a lovely way to compare seasons, colors, clothing, weather, and activities through art!
