Another Six: A New Pattern Block Activity Your Students Can Start Today

Another Six Pattern Block Math Center

If you love simple math activities that are hands-on, meaningful, and easy to prep, I’ve just added something new to my TPT store that I think your students will LOVE.

Introducing Another Six — a new set of pattern block activity cards designed to build number sense, shape recognition, sequencing, and early addition understanding through play. Available here!

Building Number Sense with Pattern Blocks

Low-Prep Independent Math Activity

What Is “Another Six”?

Students look at a completed pattern block design showing a total of 6 shapes.

They “read” the pattern from left to right:
  • naming the shapes
  • counting the shapes
  • noticing the combinations used
Then students recreate the same design underneath on the play mat — making another six.

It’s simple, engaging, and perfect for independent math time.

Easy to Prep

Print the cards, grab some pattern blocks, and you’re ready to go in minutes.

These cards work beautifully for:
  • math centers
  • small group warm-ups
  • early finisher tubs
  • independent practice
  • quiet morning work

Math Conversations Naturally Happen

As students build, they begin noticing part-part-whole relationships within 6 (and even 12 when both designs are complete).

You might hear:
  • “There are 4 triangles and 2 squares.”
  • “That still makes 6.”
  • “Now there are 12 altogether.”
Without formal worksheets or drills, students begin developing natural early addition understanding while working with shapes and patterns.

And the best part?
