Day 8 May Doodle Challenge – Wavy Lines 🌿

Today’s May Doodle Challenge prompt is all about wavy lines - simple, relaxing, flowing marks that can turn into so many different things once you begin.

I’ve shared a little printable drawing page today too! It’s a tiny snippet from my sketchbook that you can continue in your own way. Over in the Instagram channel, there’s also a short video if you’d like to draw along with me 😊

Ideas for Wavy Lines

If you’re not sure where to begin, try imagining wavy lines as:
  • jungle vines
  • steam curling from a teacup
  • streamers at a party
  • ribbons blowing in the wind
  • kite tails dancing through the sky
Sometimes the simplest line prompts become the most relaxing pages.

A Little Creative Update

At the beginning of this month, I really hoped to start my mornings drawing with colored pencil. But honestly? I found it surprisingly difficult to connect the natural flow of my ideas with the different texture and feel of the medium.

So I’ve changed my approach a little.

I’m doodling in ink first again—where I feel most comfortable - and then following up with very quick colored pencil sketches on small notecards. I’ve also started using black pencil lightly and slowly building familiarity with recording ideas in pencil instead of ink.

It’s helping… but definitely taking time.

And I think that’s an important reminder for creative practice in general:

If you’re trying something new, you don’t have to force yourself into it all at once.

Start slowly. Let your practice adjust. Let your ideas settle into the new process gradually.

Creative confidence builds gently 🤍

Enjoy your drawing time today ✏️
