I’ve got a few fun, low-prep ideas to brighten up your math and literacy time this week:
1. Math Kit New: Octopus Eight!
You’ll find this in Math Kit Bundle 2, and there are so many ways to play. Spin and build your way to 8 by adding cubes to each leg of the octopus. Want to extend the challenge? Add equal amounts to each leg—try 3 on each to make 24!If you spin a wave, you’ll need to clear the mat and start again (cue the giggles). It’s perfect for counting, addition, and subitizing practice.
Teacher tip:
Start with smaller numbers for younger learners, then invite students to explain their thinking as they build—great for math talk!2. Creative Calm: Pond Coloring Club 🖍️
Let students unwind with a mermaid or penguin coloring page—perfect for quiet time or early finishers.Teacher tip:
Pair coloring with soft music or a read-aloud to create a calm classroom reset moment.Explore here:

3. Quick Listening Game (Perfect for Transitions!) 👂
Try a language-based listening and memory game during lesson transitions. Say three words - one includes your focus sound (e.g., f for fish). Students listen carefully and identify the word with the target beginning sound.Example: turtle, penguin, flipper → Which word starts with /f/?
Have students repeat the focus word together for extra reinforcement.
Teacher tip:
Keep words within a familiar theme to boost engagement. To increase difficulty, add more words or ask students to listen for two target sounds. These little moments add up to big learning—and a lot of fun along the way 💛
