Count with Dinosaur

 Hello, math friends!

Do you have the Dinosaur Counting Cards from my Math Kit Bundle 1?
https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Number-Sense-Activity-Cards-11668366

Here are 3 simple ways to use them beyond the classic clothespin activity (counting forward/backward with dot support to build 1:1 correspondence).

Bonus tip: Swap clothespins for tan rhombus blocks—students can “add spikes” to their dinosaurs for extra fun!

1. Find the Difference

Focus: subtraction, number sense
Steps:
  • Roll two 20-sided dice
  • Find the difference
  • Cover the matching number

Find the Difference: Roll, subtract, and cover the correct number—hands-on subtraction in action!

2. Trace & Count

Focus: counting, fine motor
Steps:
  • Place card in a sleeve
  • Trace dots while counting forward/back
  • Erase and repeat
Trace & Count: Trace the dots to count forward and back while building fine motor control.

3. Call & Cover (Compare Numbers)

Focus: number comparison

Steps:
  • Show or say two numbers
  • Identify the larger number
  • Cover it
Call & Cover: Hear two numbers, find the larger, and cover it—quick and fun number comparison!
