How to Draw a Spring Hedgehog with Kids
Spring is a fun time to explore animals in art lessons, and hedgehogs make the sweetest drawing subject! Today I’m sharing a simple spring hedgehog drawing idea that works beautifully with younger students.Last year I shared an autumn hedgehog drawing, which you might remember from my Instagram reels. This time we’re giving the hedgehog a spring twist by turning it into a mother and baby hedgehog drawing.
The best part? It only takes four simple steps for students to follow along.
If you'd like to see the drawing steps, you can hop over to my Instagram to draw along.
A Simple Drawing Idea for Spring
To create the mother and baby hedgehog scene, we start with a simple hedgehog shape.A fun little adjustment makes the drawing feel more like a story:
- Draw a large hedgehog and small one on top
- Position the eyeballs looking upward so the mama hedgehog is gazing at her baby
- Students love when a drawing feels like it has a relationship or story between the characters.
Materials to Try
For my example, I used:- Black marker
- Watercolors
- Crayons for a softer look
- Oil pastels with watercolor resist
- Colored pencils for more detailed hedgehog textures
Add a Spring Setting
Invite students to add:- flowers
- grass
- insects
- sunshine
- spring leaves
