Scribble Bear Drawing 🐻

I’ve added a new little drawing project to my Start With an Oval drawing pack!

This scribbly bear was inspired by three oval-shaped shells, each one a little smaller than the last. Those simple shapes became a bear made from three decreasing ovals — big, medium and small.

The photos show the bear drawn with round, scribbly crayon lines and finished with watercolor. Students could also use neat single lines and draw with a pencil, crayon or marker.

Simple pre-writing practice

The main idea behind this activity is very simple: move that crayon!

Making repeated oval movements gives little hands an easy, playful way to practise pencil control, coordination and fine-motor skills before writing. There’s no need for the scribbles to be perfect — drawing over and around the oval shape is part of the fun.

You can also connect the drawing to other classroom learning:

• B is for bear, brown and big
• Size words: big, medium and small
• Ordering by size: largest to smallest
• Fairytales and stories: beginning, middle and end (1-2-3)
• Narrative structure: use the finished bear as a prompt for drawing, telling or writing a simple story
