An Easy First-Week Get-to-Know-You Activity

Looking for something that's simple to prepare and low pressure for students?

Try a Move, Look, Listen! classroom walk.

Invite children to quietly move around the classroom as you give simple prompts:

• Can you find the reading corner?
• Can you find a desk with a blue chair?
• Can you spot something round?
• Can you find a class calendar?
• Can you stand beside something that makes you smile?

Mix in a few playful movement directions:

• Hop like a bunny to the carpet.
• Walk on tiptoes to the bookshelf.
• Stretch up tall like a giraffe.
• Freeze like a statue!

Children don't need to introduce themselves or speak in front of the class if they aren't ready. Instead, they're simply listening, exploring their new classroom, moving their bodies, and sharing a few smiles and laughs together as they become comfortable in their new environment.

Finish the activity by inviting everyone to choose a coloring page from the pack—or provide blank paper and encourage children to draw a picture of something they discovered in their new classroom.

Whether children choose to color, create, or simply enjoy some quiet time together, these little moments help build confidence, creativity, and a happy classroom community from the very first days of school.
