Hi arty friends! 🎨🌊
Are you trying the jellyfish drawing from my Ocean Directed Drawing Pack? It’s such a fun project for combining art, movement, counting, and early handwriting practice all in one lesson! Before students begin drawing the jellyfish, try a quick mini handwriting warm-up together:
Draw a line of waves: down up, down up, down up!
Then continue with simple counting patterns:
- 3 small waves, 1 large wave
- 4 small waves, 1 large wave
- 5 small waves, 1 large wave
- 6 small waves, 1 large wave
Now comes the magic part 🪼
Hop back through the waves and “find” the jellyfish! Students can draw curved shapes over the tops of a few waves, then add long jellyfish legs hanging down into the water. Finish with little faces and suddenly the waves are filled with friendly jellyfish!
Of course, you can also jump straight into the art project if you’d prefer ✨
For finishing touches, students might:
- outline in crayon
- paint watercolor washes over the ocean
- twist crepe paper to create seaweed
- add bubbles, shells, or tiny fish around the jellyfish
It’s a simple but imaginative project that works beautifully for ocean themes, summer learning, and early art confidence.
