Australian Christmas Art and Writing Pack for Kindergarten

Why a Tasmanian Devil for Christmas?

Tasmanian devils might not be as widely celebrated as koalas or kangaroos, but they’re incredible creatures with so much character! Known for loving cooler weather, they fit surprisingly well into Christmas themes — especially if you picture them snuggled up in their dens like Santa in his workshop.

This drawing was inspired by that charm, along with my long-time support for Aussie Ark, an organisation caring for Tasmanian devils on the Australian mainland. They work tirelessly to protect these animals from the facial tumour disease impacting wild populations. While the serious work they do doesn’t take centre stage in this drawing pack, it’s part of why I love featuring Tassie devils in kid-friendly, joyful ways.

What’s Included in the Tasmanian Devil Santa Directed Drawing Pack?

This resource is designed for Kindergarten and Year 1, but it works beautifully with any early primary artists.

Students get to follow simple visual steps to create their own Tasmanian Devil Santa, then use their pictures as inspiration for writing. It’s a great way to build confidence in both drawing and literacy.

Perfect for December Lessons

Teachers love using directed drawings during the lead-up to Christmas because they:
  • Provide structured, calm art time
  • Build fine motor and observation skills
  • Pair beautifully with writing tasks
  • Create display-worthy classroom art
  • nd when you add a uniquely Australian character? It makes your holiday bulletin boards even more memorable!
