New in the Math Kit! Sorting Mats Are Here!
Hey friends! Just popping in with a little update — I’ve added Sorting Mats to the Math Kit bundle! These are such a useful tool and I wanted to make sure you had them too. Whether you’re setting up sorting activities at the start of the year or using them for quick number games later on, they’re so versatile.
Here’s a really easy way you can start using them right away — no prep beyond grabbing a few dice and number cards!
Ladybug Dice Sort: Quick Math Warm-Up
This is a fast and playful activity that gets kids subitizing and sorting in no time. Great for building fluency and a perfect little routine for the math table.You’ll Need:
- The 2-section Sorting Mat (new in the bundle!)
- Number cards 0–6 (from Bundle 1)
- 5 dice
- Ladybug 1-space mat (optional – just for a fun story hook!)
Here’s How to Play:
- Pop the 2-section sorting mat on the table.
- Choose a number card (say, 4) and place it on the Ladybug Mat. That’s Ladybug’s number — the number of spots she’s looking for today!
- Roll 5 dice.
- Look quickly (subitize!) and sort the dice:
- Dice that match the number go on one side of the mat.
- Dice that don’t go on the other.
- Tip: You can change the number each round for extra practice!
A Few Quick Tips for Play:
- Keep the pace light and fun – encourage them to spot it and sort it!
- This makes a great small group warm-up or an independent station.
- Have a back-up activity ready (maybe something you did last week) just in case a few learners finish early or need a confidence boost with something familiar.
- Add a story element: “The ladybugs are looking for their landing spots – but only if the spots match!”
