A Quick & Fun Math Warm-Up Using Grid Cards

Looking for a low-prep, high-impact math warm-up your learners will love? This simple activity uses any of the grid mats from my Math Kit Bundles and is perfect for repeated numeral practice, number sense, and even reinforcing reading directionality!

Here’s how it works:

• Choose a grid mat—like the Cargo Count Trucks, Catnap Count, Koala Grid Cards, Turtle 9-Grid, or Hop-Along Garden Mats.
• Then, fill the grid by placing number tiles one by one, left to right, top to bottom—just like we read. 
• Say each number aloud as it’s placed. 
• That’s it! 
• You’ve already practiced numeral identification, spatial orientation, and oral number fluency.

Want to level it up? Try these quick variations:

• Say the number +10, +2, +5 or +3
• Say the number 4 less, 2 less, 1 less or more
• Say the number 5 more, 13 more, 7 more
• Halve the number, multiply it by 3
• Say double the number
