Do you have five minutes and a pen nearby? That’s all you need for a quick creative brain break — and today’s prompt is one of my favorites: draw a cat!

This was the prompt for Day 5 of my September Silly Doodle Challenge, but honestly — it’s always a good day to draw a cute kitty. Whether you sketch in your notebook, on a napkin, or digitally, it’s a great way to reset your brain and get your creativity flowing again.

3 Quick Tips for Drawing a Cat

Start with Shapes:

Think simple — a circle for the head, a bean for the body, and triangles for ears. Build from these easy shapes and add your personality from there!

Focus on Expression:

Cats can be curious, sleepy, or mischievous. Try changing their eye shape or whisker direction to give your cat a bit of attitude or charm.

Add a Pattern or Texture:

I’m doing a checkered pattern on mine today! You can find inspiration anywhere — from your favorite cozy blanket to something you spot on a short walk. Let your environment inspire the pattern or colors you use.
